As Featured in Build Australia Magazine, Royal Perth Intensive Care Unit

The successful completion of the $29-million redevelopment of Royal Perth Hospital’s (RPH) intensive care unit (ICU) amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 is a testament to the flexibility, teamwork, and agile design capabilities of Hunt Architects. As a renowned architectural firm with over 50 years of national practice, Hunt Architects collaborated with consultants, ADCO Constructions, the Department of Finance, and the East Metropolitan Health Service to fast-track this vital project in response to the pandemic. In March, the ICU’s state-of-the-art facility was officially opened by WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson. With Western Australia in the midst of a heightened phase of the pandemic, the new ICU capacity will accommodate the sickest patients and contribute significantly to the overall ICU capacity of the region. In addition to optimizing the unit for COVID-19 conditions, the design incorporated features such as frequent air changes, switch glass windows in separate rooms, and a ventilation system capable of safely accommodating both COVID and non-COVID patients. The ICU also includes a dedicated simulation training room and a new clinical information system for efficient data management
