As the largest regional recreation facility in Western Australia’s South West, the South West Sports Centre in Bunbury is a vibrant destination that balances performance, leisure and inclusivity.
Delivered for the City of Bunbury, the $11 million development introduced an extensive aquatic and recreation complex to meet the sporting and leisure needs of the region.
The design unites performance infrastructure with family-friendly recreation, ensuring the centre caters to both elite athletes and everyday users.
The facility features a 10-lane, 50-metre competition pool integrated with a six-lane, 25-metre pool, a leisure pool, slides, spas and an outdoor water playground, comprehensive amenities including gymnasiums, aerobics studios, crèche, retail outlet, kiosk and café, along with function and meeting rooms, multi-sport courts for netball, basketball and squash, as well as dedicated fitness spaces.
Designed for Everyone
The South West Sports Centre offers more than facilities: it provides access. Programs such as Little Lappers Swim School, Aqua Fitness Classes, and inclusive community sports encourage participation across all ages and abilities.
From competitive swim meets to children’s play and seniors’ fitness, each zone is designed for safety, comfort and flexibility. The spatial layout encourages visibility and connection, while warm materials and daylight support a welcoming, civic atmosphere.
A Long-Term Investment in Community Health
Since opening, the South West Sports Centre has become a cornerstone of the Bunbury community: a place where people gather to move, socialise and belong. Its integrated offering supports the City’s goal of fostering active, connected communities across the region.
The facility demonstrates how regional infrastructure, when designed with care and inclusion, can deliver enduring value, not just as a building, but as a shared public asset.
