Honouring Our Past, Embracing The Future: Celebrating Our New Perth Studio Launch

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting over 150 industry partners, clients, and collaborators to celebrate the opening of our new Perth Studio. Thank you to everyone who joined us – it was a fantastic evening of fine food, paired with Western Australian wine and great conversation. The official studio launch marks the next chapter of Hunt Architects is located within the iconic Commonwealth Bank Building in Perth City. We’re grateful to share this milestone with the industry that built us.

Mark Young, Hunt Architects Director & Managing Principal, began official proceedings by an Acknowledgement of Country, recognising the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our Perth studio stands.

“We sought to create a space that not only inspires creative thinking, but represents who we are. The vibrant, monochromatic meeting spaces are inspired by the lands in which we work, representing Country | Boodjar, River | Bilya, Bush | Marlak and Path | Bidi, and have been named in collaboration with the Noongar Boodjar Language Cultural Aboriginal Corporation.“

The Honourable Peter Tinley MLA officially opened the new studio space, highlighting in his speech how Hunt’s relocation aligns with broader government objectives and energising the city centre.

“Can I congratulate Hunt on a brave decision to move into town after 54 years, occupying a space right in the centre that cannot be denied – and what a great building to be invested in. It represents so much of that we as a government and we as a people in Western Australia want to do here and that is improve the centre.”

Hon. Peter Tinley, MLA, Member for Willagee

Vacant for nearly a decade, the Commonwealth Bank building immediately captivated us with its rich heritage and striking Art Deco details. High ceilings, geometric motifs, and intricate column capitals make this space a true architectural gem. The original jarrah parquet flooring, with its natural warmth and history, adds to the unique character of our new studio.

One of the standout design features is the bold use of vibrant, monochromatic colors in our gathering spaces. Each room is color-blocked in a distinct hue, functioning both as a wayfinding aid and a visual cue for its purpose. Drawing inspiration from Perth’s natural landscapes, we collaborated with the Noongar Boodjar Language Cultural Aboriginal Corporation to ensure the concepts are accurately translated into the Noongar language, maintaining proper grammatical form. In recognition of the Traditional Owners of the land, the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, our meeting rooms will be named Boodjar (Country), Bilya (River), Marlak (Bush) and a focus room titled Bidi (Path).

From the start, our vision was to create a dynamic and collaborative environment that reflects the Hunt Architects brand and supports the creativity we strive for. PrimePrivate, along with our delivery partners Centuria Capital Group, Plexus Engineers, and West to West Group, brought this vision to life with exceptional attention to detail.

Boldly Hunt Architects
At its core, the Perth Studio is distinctly Hunt Architects: bold, dynamic, and purpose-driven. The juxtaposition of the building’s heritage elements with modern design captures the essence of our practice—celebrating the past while looking toward the future.
