Honouring History: Displays & Artefacts
At the heart of the Museum is a collection that tells the story of policing through the objects and experiences that have shaped it. Vehicles, historical artefacts, documents, images and uniforms will offer insight into the history of the WA Police Force and recognise the courage, resilience and service of the women and men who have served, and continue to serve, communities across the State. Permanent and temporary exhibitions will be supported by dedicated teaching and learning spaces, creating opportunities for school groups and the wider community to engage with this history.
Adaptive Re-Use: East Perth Lockup Redevelopment
Located within the WA Police Force Headquarters precinct, the former East Perth Lockup carries decades of significance. The east portion of the existing three-storey 1960s building will be retained and refurbished, giving it a new purpose as the home of the Museum. The design allows the building to become part of the museum experience. Parts of the former lock-up will remain in their original condition, providing visitors with a tangible connection to the history of the place. Through adaptive reuse, the project balances the character and authenticity of the existing building with the requirements of a contemporary museum – extending the life of an important place while ensuring its stories remain visible.
